10 Collectible Cars from 2001-2010

Dodge Viper ACR

We’re all pretty familiar with collectible cars. For instance we know that a 1965 Shelby Cobra is worth millions, and cars like the Ferrari Enzo and Lamborghini Miura will change owners time and time again. When it comes to predicting future collectibles though, well, that’s not as easy as it may sound. There have been many cars produced that combine styling and performance, but to be a true collectible, these vehicles need to go above and beyond, you see they need to be “special”. Listed below are 10 cars from 2001-2010 that I think may fit the bill.

• 2010 Cadillac CTS-V
2009 Cadillac CTS-V

Horsepower & Torque: 556 hp / 550 lb.ft
Top Speed: 191 mph

Why: The first American built super sedan capable of beating the best that Europe had to offer.

• 2005 Ford GT
2005 Ford GT

Horsepower & Torque: 550 hp / 500 lb.ft
Top Speed: 205 mph

Why: Built for only two years (4,038 produced), the Ford GT once again brought back the notion that the United States could in fact build a full-on super car with class leading abilities.

• 2001 BMW Z8
2001 BMW Z8

Horsepower & Torque: 400 hp / 370 lb.ft
Top Speed: 186 mph (un-governed)

Why: It’s got an all aluminum chassis and body, drop dead gorgeous styling, it’s a drop top and James Bond drove one.

• 2008 Dodge Viper ACR

Horsepower & Torque: 600 hp / 560 lb.ft
Top Speed: 190+ mph

Why: The last generation of the Dodge Viper was built to be a track ready, street legal animal. No traction control or stability controls means this snake was for: “Experts Only”.

• 2001 BMW E39 M5
2001 BMW E39 M5

Horsepower & Torque: 400 hp / 396 lb.ft
Top Speed: 186 mph (un-governed)

Why: Considered to be the ultimate sleeper sedan, the 2001 BMW M5 was raw, uncluttered and a true drivers car. Equipped with a 6-speed manual and 400 hp, it is considered by some to be the crowning achievement of BMW’s M division.

• 2006 Dodge Magnum SRT8
2006 Dodge Magnum SRT8

Horsepower & Torque: 425 hp / 420 lb.ft
Top Speed: 171 mph

Why: An American made muscle wagon built in a time when wagons where not in style. 0-60 in 5.2 seconds, quarter mile in the low-13 range, all day comfort and a top speed of 171 mph.

• 2009 Pontiac Solstice GXP Coupe

Horsepower & Torque: 260 hp / 260 lb.ft
Top Speed: 143 mph

Why: This was one of the last cool Pontiac’s produced before the brand was dissolved. The Solstice GXP Coupe packed high style into a sleek, quick package that was killed off much too quickly.

• 2003 BMW Z4 M
2002 BMW Z4 M

Horsepower & Torque: 330 hp / 269 lb.ft
Top Speed: 156 mph

Why: Considered to be an oddball by some, the Z4 M could very well be the perfect car. Its 330 hp inline-6 revs to the moon, its styling is simply beautiful, plus it’s got a usable trunk!

• 2009 Corvette ZR1
2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

Horsepower & Torque: 638 hp / 604 lb.ft
Top Speed: 205 mph

Why: Simply put, the baddest Corvette the world has ever seen.

• 2002 Plymouth Prowler
2002 Plymouth Prowler

Horsepower & Torque: 253 hp / 255 lb.ft
Top Speed: 125 mph

Why: It’s not very fast and it’s not very well built, however, the Plymouth Prowler is the closest thing to a concept car for the street the world has ever seen. It’s hot rod styling came from classic American design and brought the spirit of the open road to the streets.

    I HAVE to own a Viper before I die, I’d rather die than own a Prowler.

      Hahaha, yea I have to agree with you there. I would love to take the Viper for a spin one day. Few thoughts on these selections though:

      -Cadillac CTS-V: I see your point, yea it is fast.

      -Ford GT: isn’t it already a collectible?

      -Viper: YES, awesome car, but unfortunately soon it will be less of a beast and probably more of a computer, I just hope they still keep the same ridiculously aggressive styling in the new one

      -E39 M5: Oddly enough, my cousin owns one and what you said is just about word-for-word what he thinks of it

      -Magnum: ehh, I guess

      -Solstice: Everytime I see this car on the road I instantly think its some kind of super car – what with its showy sports car styling and whatnot – but then the next instant I realize its just the Solstice, whose performance doesnt match its looks :/

      -Z4 M: I think I saw one of these the other day, aren’t they sort of rare?

      -ZR1: agreed completely, what a sick car.

    I thought the inclusion of the Magnum was odd. Not that it’s a bad car…it’s not (in SRT8 trim, anyway). It just didn’t seem to “fit” with the others. Then again, I so rarely see one these days that hasn’t been molested and fitted with 24″ chrome rims and chrome trim from tip to tail *shudder*

    ha, someone is a beamer fan. Good choice on the Magnum SRT tho. They didnt make many of them despite being a cool car.

    I think they might’ve missed one: the 2001 E38 7-Series. The last of the classic, “old school” BMW designs before Chris Bangle “mangled” it into the E65/66 7-Series. And I can’t believe they listed the Dodge Magnum. Folks, they were discontinued for a reason. Actually, for many reasons. Not sure I’d call it a “collectible” in any sense of the term.

      Tim, lots of things play into the definition of collectable. As an Owner of several muscle cars from 409 to Lightning, my simple response is FIND a SRT8 Magnum that hasn’t been ragged out. Check the production numbers, then check on YouTube to find it can hold its own with well defined muscle CARS.. :) Proud Owner of SVTF150 and SRT8 Mag, Grand National with others.

    Take the Prowler out and slot in a LS1 era Trans Am WS6. The hoodscoops alone are worth more than any overpriced V6 powered false hot rod.

    I humbly submit the 2001 Mustang Bullitt.

    Also, if you are going to include the Prowler you might as well add the Chevrolt SSR. In fact, you can include them both as one entry. They were both terrible attempts at an OEM retro-rod, and maybe together they add up to one car.

    Prowler….that would be like saying the Pacer is collectable. Retro-hotrod then add the SSR and HHR and PT cruiser too….sad.
