1974 BMW 2002

Remember when I talked about how old cars will always be cool? Well, here’s another perfect example of that. This is a 1974 BMW 2002 that has gone through a full restoration that not only includes performance upgrades but visual enhancements as well. Gone is the original 2.0-liter inline-4 and in its place sits a 70 thousand mile M20 6-cylinder that makes about 168 hp. The engine is backed by a Getrag 245 series 5-speed transmission out of a Euro-spec BMW 323. Just about every mechanical part on the car has either been replaced or modified with better equipment to create the beauty you see here. The suspension for example has been completely redone with Bilstein sport shocks, New Ireland Engineering stage 2 springs and bigger sway bars. Brakes are 4-wheel discs that utilize Wilwood Superlite Calipers, Wilwood bias valve and the master cylinder from a 7-series. As for wheels, those are 15×7 BBS RZ’s and honestly, they look stellar on this car.

During the restoration the body was completely removed of rust with new rockers and a few new body panels installed. That was followed by as set of BMW turbo flares for the fenders, a beautiful front airdam and a wicked rear spoiler to help round out the sporty look.

Interior enhancements include a custom gauge cluster with VDO gauges, Recaro sport seats and a Momo competition steering wheel. Right now this baby is up on eBay with a buy-it-now price of $25,000. Now, is the car worth it? Well, that’s for the buyer to decide. What I can tell you is that there is no way that you’d be able to build something like this for the sellers asking price. Head over to eBay to check out the rest of the modifications and more photos of this beautiful old Bimmer.

I can understand and relate to using whatever engine is readily available (if that’s the case here) BUT these were never offered with a 6 and I’m sure the length and weight of the mill is all wrong for the weight distribution of the original design. The e30 m3 s14 engine is the ultimate engine upgrade for the 2002
